A bit more about what to expect in 2013

We thought we give you a taster of what will happen in our Lucky Snapping Challenge . . .

Week 1 of each month:
The View Challenge

Hosted by Jen

It should be very simple to follow.

Your challenge is to decide on a view that you love and take a photo of it at some point this week, when the light is good and/or you have time. Over the year we will then have one photo a month of that view which will show the changes in the seasons. Of course if your favourite view is completely urban then this won't be so obvious, but it doesn't matter a bit about that.

I am also offering a challenge to scrap those photos, now, please don't panic, this is entirely optional.
If you did want to join in then there will be a 12x12 layout and sketch and instructions or a 5x7 option for a speedier minibook version. If I do get anyone joining me in this then I will also offer how to make covers for these scrapbooks to tie it all together.

The theme that I am going to use for this is a favourite childhood poem.

The months

January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.

February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.

March brings breezes loud and shrill,
Stirs the dancing daffodil.

April brings the primrose sweet
Scatters daisies at our feet.

May brings flocks of pretty lambs,
Skipping by their fleecy damns.

June brings tulips, lilies, roses,
Fills the children's hands with posies.

Hot July brings cooling showers
Apricots brings the and gilly flowers.

August brings the sheaves of corn,
Then the harvest home is borne.

Warm September brings the fruit,
Sportsmen then begin to shoot.

Fresh October brings the pheasants,
Then to gather nuts is pleasant.

Dull November brings the blast,
Then the leaves are whirling fast.

Chill December brings the sleet,
Blazing fire, and Christmas treat.

See you in January

Week 2 of each month : The Let's reflect challenge
Hosted by Anne

Hello everybody,

I will be your host on the 2nd Monday of each month during 2013. I am full of enthusiasm and excitement but I never hosted a challenge before so you might have to bear with me a bit !

For those not knowing me, I am French, mid fifties and I live in the South of England with Hubby Dennis and the Girls ( who are 2 Golden Retrievers : Rhea and Bubbles).  Oh and being French means you certainly will spot some orthography and syntax mistakes that I apologize for in advance.

I am the type of seeing the glass half full instead of half empty and I always try to see positive in everything, but being like anybody else, it's sometimes very difficult to do that especially when going through difficult times.

As we all go through good and bad times as part of life, I thought we could try doing it together and build something we could go back to for support.

I have selected an expression ( or is it a word ? ) that I believe fits beautifully and it is :

Silver lining

I do believe there is a silver lining in everything, we just have to find it. So for each of the 12 challenges, we will work on a word starting with each of the 12 letters of silver lining.

We will try to know ourselves and our loved ones better and our goal over this year will be to build a record of these 12 words ( in a form that speaks to us like a mini-book or some scrapbooking pages, or simply some art journalling ) on which we can look back over the next years and get some inspiration from. You will be able to take a picture or many pictures and I should be including some crafting ideas ( still in development ).

We certainly will learn from each other  but the important part is you will be doing something for yourself. Some of us will feel very comfortable with sharing certain things and some of us won't want to share that much. There is nothing wrong with either way so feel free to share as much or as little as you want to (Hidden journaling can be a good way of sharing). As long as the challenge brings something positive in your life, then my goal will be reached.

I hope that by the end of 2013, we all will feel a bit stronger, closer to people we love and ready to share our silver lining experience with those who don't have one yet.

Looking forward to meet you all on January 7th, 2013.

Week 3 of each month : The theme-ology challenge
Hosted by Kathi

I was watching Robbie Williams at the O2 last night (and he still has it for me! ;-) ) and maybe the title to this is a reference to his Escapology album!  I don't know.. but there I go again, getting waylaid with words and my mind running amok!  Anyone here remember that BT ad where Maureen Lipman was talking to her grandson and said ...'Oh you got an -ology'?  You can see how my synapses jump about and the words and pictures in my head get going..

This is me!
I am going to be setting the weekly prompt on the third Monday of each month as I will be asking you to look back a bit: a week, a month, years even,  just about how long you want to and how long you feel comfortable with!   It will be a chance to share some memories, funny stories, pictures you found in a drawer somewhere or just a picture of something today which reminds you of someone you knew or a place you went to..

.. as I grow older I am turning into a combination of my Mum and my aunt, a right laugh at myself really, for all the moaning and groaning I did when they went off into nowhere land talking about 'back in the days when..'

So I hope you will join me for your journeys too and we can expand on those great stories we have swapped in 2012.. love to everyone and see if you can get a friend or two to join us and grow the love!

Week 4 of each month ...

Well ... we don't need to tell you everything everything right now, do we ?

Looking forward to see you joining for a lot of fun !

Sunday 9 December 2012

Welcome.

Here it is then, our new home for 2013. It seems like no time since we were getting excited to start 365+1.

The first 'official' post will be on New Year's Eve *gulp*, it is so near. It will outline what will happen for the first few weeks so that if there are any challenges that you like the look of you can start planning and getting yourself organised if you like that sort of thing. I do, so for those of you like me, that will help. I am not so good at getting it done mind :) For those of you that would just like to wander by and see what is happening and join in more 'organically' then you can totally do that too. My hope is that all of us 365+1'ers can find something they can enjoy, join in most of the time and that will keep us all together. I hope we find a few others that will want to join in as well so if you know someone that might enjoy it then please encourage them to come along and see.

I think the thing that I will have to get used to is the fact that you don't 'have' to, or 'need' to take a photo every day or a new photo every week if you don't want to and I would actively encourage you to share and be proud of any older shots you have that you can use for prompts/challenges etc.

By the same token, I am so thrilled with the fact that I have taken a lot of photos this year, I have taken a lot every year since I got my 'big' camera and I have taken so many many more on my phone this year (which will be one year old on New Years Day!). So for those of you that love this aspect of it don't worry, there will be plenty of 'daily' prompts i.e. a word that you can interpret. Hopefully we will cover all the things that you love in some shape or form.

So in a nutshell (although as you can see I can't explain things very quickly!).
We will have a weekly prompt starting every Monday. That will give you a prompt or challenge for the week that is photography based. We will then have some prompts through the week which may expand on the idea, give you further challenges or just be a prompt to get you thinking.

But you know what? If you just want to upload the photos that you have taken that day or that week and tell us what is happening in your world then that is totally the right thing too. And of course we will all love that.

Ok, if you have any questions, leave them as a comment and one or other of us will get back to you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pre-challenge Challenge!

Tell us how many photos you took this year.
You can use most photo software to sort your photos by date and it should tell you.

That is the challenge, now I think there ought to be a prize. So for the person that makes the nearest guess as to how many photos we took as a group they will win a scrappy prize.

To make it fair these are the rules and guidelines:
1. Join as a follower on this blog.
2. Leave a comment on this post that you are joining in the challenge by December 24th, Christmas Eve 11pm.
3. I will then post on this blog on December 26th, Boxing Day with who and how many people are joining in so you can make a 'more' educated guess.
4. You then have until December 31st, New Year's Eve to make your guess. You need to leave it as a comment in that post (which I will remind you of then).
5. The nearest guess will win, in the event of a tie I will ask use a tried and tested form of decision making...toss a coin or pull out of a hat.

The prize will be both photography and scrappy based...details to come.
