The View Challenge 2013: January

January brings the snow,
makes our feet and fingers glow.

Happy New Year and as that makes it 1st January 2013 it is time to start Lucky Snapping.

It is my turn first with The View challenge.

So this challenge is to decide on a view that you love and take a photo of it at some point this week, when the light is good and/or you have time. Over the year we will then have one photo a month of that view which will show the changes in the seasons. Of course if your favourite view is completely urban then this won't be as obvious, but it will still completely work.

I was initially inspired by Anne's view that she often takes at the start of her walks with her lovely dogs (I have been lucky enough to go on that walk with them).

Originally I was going to take a view that is at the end of my road (I love it and I am hoping to incorporate it into my challenge as an extra, more on that later this week.), but then it occurred to me that my very favourite view is one I don't go to nearly as much as I used to and that the challenge would give me a reason to go. As we got to talking about how we could carry on with a photography challenge as a group it grew from there.

I am hoping that the weather will be different enough to make it varied but the changing environment should be enough.

I am also offering a challenge to scrap those photos, now, please don't panic, this is entirely optional.

If you did want to join in then there will be a 12x12 layout and sketch and instructions or a 5x7 option for a speedier minibook version. If I do get anyone joining me in this then I will also offer how to make covers for these scrapbooks to tie it all together at some point through the year.

The theme that I am going to use for this is a favourite childhood poem.

The Months
January brings the snow,
makes our feet and fingers glow.

February brings the rain,
thaws the frozen lake again.

March brings breezes loud and shrill,
stirs the dancing daffodil.

April brings the primrose sweet,
scatters daisies at our feet.

May brings flocks of pretty lambs,
skipping by their fleecy dams.

June brings tulips, lilies, roses,
fills the children's hand with posies.

Hot July brings cooling showers,
apricots and gillyflowers.

August brings the sheaves of corn,
then the harvest home is borne.

Warm September brings the fruit,
sportsmen then begin to shoot.

Fresh October brings the pheasants,
then to gather nuts is pleasant.

Dull November brings the blast,
then the leaves are whirling fast.

Chill December brings the sleet,
blazing fire, and christmas treat.

Here is my first layout, I was aiming to get out and get my first photo last week but work and the weather prevented me, so I have put in a temporary photo so you get the idea and I will replace it with the real one when I have taken the photo.
The 5x7 version
So I hope you can join in.

2nd - Layouts, sketches and how I made the layouts.

  6. Happy New Year!
    I have a question - 12/12 and 5/7 - these dimensions are in inches.
    That means 30.5 / 30.5 cm and 12.7 / 17.8 cm.

  7. Hello Borqna, Happy New Year, yes that is correct :)

  8. Loved this, Jen. Thanks for the inspiration.
